On many levels, Germany’s come-from-ahead friendly loss to England on Saturday was hard for its players to accept.

Die Mannschaft took a 2-0 lead on goals from Toni Kroos and Mario Gomez on either side of halftime, but allowed tallies in the 61st and 74th minute before ultimately giving up the winner to Eric Dier in the first minute of stoppage time.

The loss was Germany’s third in four outings, and the first home defeat since the USMNT shocked them late in a June 10 match.

From The Independent:

“It was an unnecessary, stupid defeat,” Germany midfielder Khedira said.

“We all need to take a look at ourselves and work hard now. We did a lot right up until the second goal, then after that we were much worse - and England punished us.

“However, we played well for an hour. We need to play well for 90 minutes against Italy (in Tuesday’s friendly) and in the European Championship.”

The Italians visit Munich on Tuesday winless in three, having drawn Spain and Romania after a loss to Belgium. Will either nation get off the schneid? Linguistically, you’d favor Germany.
