Sergio Aguero will miss Argentina’s upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

According to the Argentine FA Aguero, 28, suffered a calf injury in Manchester City’s 3-1 victory against West Ham United on Sunday and he is no longer in their squad for the games against Uruguay and Venezuela.

City’s main striker was subbed out in the 88th minute by Pep Guardiola and news of this calf injury comes amid controversy as there are calls for Aguero to receive a retrospective ban for his flailing elbow which caught West Ham defender Winston Reid in the face in the second half.

If Aguero is handed a ban by the FA he will miss the upcoming Manchester derby against Manchester United on Saturday Sept. 10 (Watch live, 7:30 a.m. ET on NBCSN and online via NBC Sports).

In MLS injury news, that sound you hear is MLS fantasty players weeping: Sebastian Giovinco is out injured.

Giovinco, 29, has scored 17 goals and added 13 assists in all competitions for Toronto this season as the reigning league MVP is on course for another stellar season.

Following their 1-0 defeat to Canadian rivals Montreal at the weekend, Toronto said in a statement that Giovinco “has been diagnosed with strains in his quadriceps and adductor” and confirmed he will be out for four weeks. That means Giovinco will miss games against Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and Orlando.

With TFC in first place in the Eastern Conference and just seven games of the regular season to go, this a horrendous bad time to lose their talisman.
