“It is severe disappointment” -- Neil reacts to Norwich relegation
Norwich City went down swinging, relegated to the Championship despite a 4-2 win over Watford at Carrow Road on Wednesday.
Manager Alex Neil is downhearted at his side’s status, having led the team to the Premier League last season only to go back down after one year in the top flight.
He says he doesn’t fear for his job, and is quite stung by the drop back to the second tier. From the BBC:
“It is severe disappointment. In recent matches we have known it was going to be a difficult match. We had it in our hands five matches ago but we came up short.
“The story for us is that as a club, we have dropped short for a variety of reasons. We have made vital errors in games at crucial times and the recruitment has not been as good to strengthen the squad.
“The support was humbling. We have not given them too much to shout about and that makes it harder for me to accept for letting them down.”
The 34-year-old Scot presided over the entire campaign, but also stepped into the job in January of the promotion year and led the Canaries up. Will he get the chance to do it again?
