BERLIN (AP) Joachim Loew says he is staying on as Germany coach through the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The German federation says Loew “clearly told” federation president Reinhard Grindel that he will fulfill his contract, which runs until 2018.

Questions arose over Loew’s future after Germany lost to France in the European Championship semifinals last week.

Grindel says Loew is “the best coach for this team” and “has our unrestricted confidence.”

Loew says “a few days of calm and detachment” has been necessary following the loss. He says he still sees great potential in the Germany team and wants to continue working with the players.
