Jordon Ibe is just 19-years-old, but he is already looking to break through on the international stage.

The Liverpool midfielder was born in London, but is also eligible to represent Nigeria through his father. Nigerian national team coach Sunday Oliseh reached out to Ibe to see if he would be interested in representing the Super Eagles, but Ibe turned down the offer in the hopes of receiving an England call-up.

Now that it is clear who Ibe wants to play for, England boss Roy Hodgson said it is possible that the youngster could get a call-up for the final EURO qualifying matches in October.

Many years ago Steven Gerrard mentioned Jordon. He wasn’t at Liverpool when I was there but Stevie, in one of the get-togethers, said we have this young lad who’s something special.

I want Jordon to fight for his place in the team like everybody else. He is certainly a player we like very much and certainly a player we have eyes on.

It’s far from impossible that he gets called up in one of the next games.

With England already qualified for the European Championship in 2016, Hodgson has stated he may experiment a bit with his side in the final qualifying matches. Considering England is playing weaker sides in Estonia and Lithuania, Ibe could very well get his first call-up to the senior team.

Ibe has looked good in his appearances for Liverpool this season, now a staple in the squad after spending part of last season on loan. One of Ibe’s best traits is his versatility, as he has been used as a winger, outside midfielder, and even outside back by Brendan Rodgers.
