There were conspiracy theories, outright criticism, death threats and plaudits of and for Jurgen Klinsmann when the 2014 World Cup 23-man roster was revealed on Thursday evening.

“60th minute in Recife, #USMNT is down 1-0 to Germany, Klinsmann looks down bench to find Brad Davis instead of Donovan” (h/t @devinpleuler)

If only Landon Donovan had a German mother he would have been a lock to make Jurgen Klinsmann’s World Cup roster.

Can we start adding Landon Donovan’s face to Mt. Rushmore tomorrow or is that too fast for construction?

Thank you @landondonovan for all you have done for the @USMNT #WorldCup

Not shocked Donovan isn’t on World Cup team given the choices available. But was hoping Klinsmann would still take him for leadership #USMNT

Not a conspiracy theory guy but Jürgen Klinsmann is German and he cut the greatest player in US history from the World Cup roster. #hmm
