Klinsmann: “I take the blame” for USMNT’s lackluster loss to Guatemala

Jurgen Klinsmann’s head was spinning after the United States men’s national team’s failure to do much of anything in a 2-0 loss to Guatemala on Friday.

He couldn’t explain his players’ actions on Guatemala’s two early goals, why no one was marking the near post as Rafael Morales’ moderate header bounced past a diving Tim Howard.

Klinsmann said to ask his players to explain their lack of focus, but later said he believes in the players “young and old”. He even, remarkably for him, sort of took the blame (“if you want to hear that”).

The ever-confident, oft-optimistic Klinsmann said the following:

Klinsmann was asked if he ever questions his own decisions or preparations... #usmntpic.twitter.com/tBg9JY0jxx

There is no question that Klinsmann will be under fire from all directions, and would likely be feeling an even hotter seat if he wasn’t the technical director, too (Not because the technical director would fire him, but because ditching Klinsmann as coach is made more complicated by his other responsibilities).
