Both teams had chances, but none could come through in a cagey match between Leicester City and Southampton at King Power Stadium. Charlie Austin and Jamie Vardy had the best chances for their clubs, but neither could break through to earn all three points.
Southampton looked the most dangerous in the opening 10 minutes as Leicester looked to absorb pressure and hit on the counter. The Foxes did have a moment on the break, but Riyad Mahrez couldn’t beat three defenders tracking back, and his pass to Islam Slimani was just too short.
That moment opened the game up, and Southampton had an opportunity immediately on the other end. Charlie Austin had a go from an incredibly tight angle, and he still managed to get the shot close, clashing it off the inside of the far post and back out.

Leicester had a huge chance just before the half-hour mark as Jamie Vardy pounced on a horrible back-pass from Virgil van Djik, but when the striker tried to round the goalkeeper instead of shooting first time, it allowed time for the defense to recover and the chance evaporated.
In the second half, Austin had another opportunity on 63 minutes as van Djik threaded him through, but the striker looked to chip the goalkeeper instead. Austin didn’t get the effort high enough and Kasper Schmeichel was there to snatch it out of the air.

Both sides rung the changes with 20 minutes to go, with Saints manager Claude Puel removing Dusan Tadic in favor of another striker in Shane Long. Meanwhile, Leicester City brought on super-sub Shinji Okazaki along with bright youngster Demari Gray. Claudio Ranieri brought on yet another attacker a few minutes later in Leonardo Ulloa, replacing Slimani.

Saints had one more big chance before the full-time whistle, on 85 minutes as substitute James Ward-Prowse received a deflected cross from Shane Long all alone in the box, but he disappointingly blasted the chance well over the bar. Robert Huth nearly put his goalkeeper in danger with a poor back-pass into the path of Long, but Schmeichel cleared before screaming at his defenders.
The Foxes had one more sniff on goal with the final kick of the game as Danny Drinkwater fed Ulloa, but his shot also skied well over the bar, and the referee brought the match to a close.

The single point left either side still floundering in the middle of the table. Leicester City moved to eight points, moving up one place above Bournemouth on goal differential. Southampton, meanwhile, technically moved up to ninth position with nine points but only while sliding into a virtual tie with West Brom.
