Jurgen Klopp was careful with his words after Liverpool drew Manchester United 0-0 at Anfield on Monday.

The Reds manager knows it’s good to keep a clean sheet, but he saw his team outmuscled and “not brave” as Liverpool couldn’t capitalize on their chances at home.

And certainly, he’ll be thinking of the lost chance to join Manchester City and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table.

Here’s Klopp after the game on NBCSN:

“Difficult. Mixed emotions. I’m not happy with the game. It was hectic. We didn’t play as good as we could’ve played. It’s our fault, nobody else. Their kind of defending, with man on man, we weren’t brave anymore. At the end, our performance was not as it should be. It’s the first clean sheet, Yippee. That’s actually all I’m happy with.”

...

“With Fellaini and Pogba in 1-on-1 situations, these little fouls, it’s not a problem. We want to win, if they want a point, that’s fine. We have to use it and make it a weakness. That’s what we didn’t do. It’s still very early in the season.”

As we’ll soon hear, the Manchester United locker room was pretty pleased with its result. Klopp did not criticize Mourinho for playing defensive, and credit to him for that. And the only time Liverpool seized its chances, David De Gea proved he continues to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
