Liverpool have announced that striker Daniel Sturridge will continue to spend time on the sidelines through injury.

No time has been set for the England international to return to action, with Roy Hodgson not naming Sturridge in his squad for the batch of international games over the next two weeks.

Many Liverpool fans had hoped that Sturridge could make a speedy recovery and be in contention for a place on the bench against Chelsea on Saturday. Rodgers has ended that talk.

“He’s out on the field today with the rehab team, he was moving very well,” Rodgers said. “But he’s probably a little bit of time away.”

So, the only thing that is clear is that Sturridge is still two to three weeks away from full fitness.

Sturridge last played for Liverpool on Aug. 31 after he suffered an initial thigh problem while on international duty with England. He then suffered a separate injury on his calf just before he was about to return and his absence has coincided with a terrible run of form for the Reds.

Liverpool haven’t scored a league goal in their last two matches and Sturridge’s strike partners Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini have failed to scored in the league this season. I’ll repeat that, no Liverpool striker other than Sturridge has scored in the Premier League this season.

With Luis Suarez sold this summer, Liverpool’s success was pinned on the shoulders of Sturridge. However with this numerous injury concerns so far, the Reds will want him back as soon as possible as their offensive output has taken a huge hit with only 13 goals in 10 PL games so far in 2014-15. A potential return for Sturridge looks like being after the international break at the earliest, as Liverpool’s trip to Crystal Palace on Nov. 23.
