Manchester United’s defense continued to do its thing, but the Red Devils’ attack still leaves much to be desired.

The Blades gave United a close shave at Old Trafford until Wayne Rooney scored in the second of six stoppage time minutes to give the Red Devils a win in the FA Cup’s third round on Saturday.

Dean Hammond, on loan from Leicester City, slid into Memphis Depay early in stoppage time, and a PK was rightfully awarded. It looked like a dive at first blush, but another angle showed Hammond’s right cleat going square into Memphis’ shin.

This will certainly keep Louis van Gaal’s chair red-hot, as fans were even chanting for Jose Mourinho during the contest.

Through 40 minutes, Louis van Gaal’s club controlled the ball and play, but couldn’t managed a shot on target. And Wayne Rooney’s chance on frame wasn’t a great one.

In the second half, United was just missing its cutting edge in receiving and shooting. Both of those are important, in case you forgot, but Chris Smalling and Memphis Depay both had late chances to win it.
