Reports from the UK suggest that Manchester United have all but sealed a $47 million deal for Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera.

The Athletic Bilbao playmaker was chased by United during the last transfer window but the potential deal unraveled on deadline day ( in bizarre fashion as three men claiming to be from United stormed the Spanish FA buildings, but later it was found no United officials were ever sent to Spain) as then manager David Moyes failed to grab his man.

However it looks as though Herrera (pictured, left) will be heading to Old Trafford after all, as he is said to have agreed a four-year deal and United have met the buyout clause of $47 million in his contract, with Sky Sports reporting that clause is set to rise to $55 million on July 1.

Herrera, 24, was earmarked by Moyes as the type of deep-lying midfielder that would thrive for the Red Devils, but now it looks like his successor, Louis van Gaal, will reap the benefits of the Scotsman’s work.

With a major rebuild underway this summer, Herrera is deemed to be the first of many new signings as a new era is ushered in by the Red Devils. Herrera sits in front of the back four superbly, keeps things ticking over and was pivotal in Bilbao’s impressive fourth-place finish in La Liga last term.

There has been no official word yet from the club, but the deal is expected to be announced in the next week to 10 days.
