Match of the Day analysis: Sherwood’s Old Trafford success; United’s continued struggles

NBC Sports’ analyst Robbie Earle, building on the simplicity theme that’s started to emerge around Tim Sherwood, recalls a quote from Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen, who talked about the mental change that’s happened since André Villas-Boas’s departure. Instead of playing with fear -- perhaps a product of the constraints and tactical demands asserted by the previous boss -- Eriksen hinted Spurs are more focused on their own approach, something that’s produced seven points in Tottenham’s last three games.

Manchester United, on the other hand, are suffering from own mental constraints when playing at Old Trafford. Having lost four games at home this season (one more than they suffered last campaign), the team seems to be hampered by the weight of expectations at the Theater of Dreams. For analyst Kyle Martino, that’s resulted in the team wilting on days like Wednesdays, and as host Rebecca Lowe describes it, the product is one step forward, two steps back for David Moyes’s side.

Here’s the panel’s full analysis on Manchester United-Tottenham from tonight’s edition of Match of the Day.
