Not one, not two, but three bits of fairly juicy Major League Soccer news have hit the headlines this Deadline Day in England.

New England has a new Designated Player, while the Red Bulls may’ve scooped an HJK Helinski back out from under Barcelona B, and a former Serie A Team of the Year back might be coming to Orlando City.

Let’s start with the first bit, as Lee Nguyen and Bobby Shuttleworth have a new teammate courtesy FC Sion. The Swiss Super League club will lose the services of 26-year-old midfielder Xavier Kouassi, and this is almost certainly the last strike against a Jermaine Jones return.

From The Boston Globe:

Kouassi, 26, will join the Revolution once his contract with the Swiss Super League club FC Sion runs out June 30. The Ivory Coast native has been the Sion captain the last two seasons and a centerpiece of the club’s success.

“Xavier is an athletic, versatile player,” said Revolution general manager Mike Burns. “We believe he will add a presence to our midfield and improve the overall quality of our team.”

Meanwhile, an Italian with a healthy resume could be headed from AC Milan to Orlando City, at least on loan. has a Tweet from Italy claiming that Alberto Nocerino, 30, has picked out the Lions as his next stop. The 15-times capped midfielder was on the same Milan squad with Kaka for a spell in 2013.

The same site translates Finnish for us, which is classy of them. New York may have found their answer in replacing Matt Miazga, who is off to Chelsea. HJK Helsinki back Gideon Baah, 24, was linked with Barcelona B, but the once-capped 6-foot-1 Ghanaian back could be headed for MLS instead.
