MLS Player of the Week — Week 26: New York Red Bulls’ Bradley Wright-Phillips

On the back of his two-goal, one-assist performance in a 3-0 hammering of D.C. United on Sunday, New York Red Bulls forward Bradley Wright-Phillips is this week’s MLS Player of the Week. Wright-Phillips bagged his 12th and 13th goals of the season (above and below videos) to make the score 2-0 and 3-0, respectively, after notching his seventh assist of the season 10 minutes earlier.

BWP has fired the Red Bulls to within two points of the lead for home-field advantage in the Eastern Conference — with three games in hand — and, perhaps most notably, done so without the assistance of a certain Mr. Thierry Henry feeding him chance after chance after chance.

Without the presence of Henry, BWP has taken more of the team’s play-making and goal-creating onus upon himself this season (again, seven assists through 25 games played). There’s no way I’d bet against his total goals contributed (goals and assists combined) this year to exceed that of last year (29) when he banged in a league record-tying 27 goals.
