The game in 100 words (or less): New York had already clinched a playoff spot, but Orlando needed a win and got won, in a big way. Cyle Larin scored a hat-trick, setting the MLS rookie goalscoring record in the process. The 20-year-old now has 14 goals in his first season in the league, besting the previous mark of 11 set back in 2003. It was an impressive performance by Orlando, as New York had only conceded four or more goals once this season, back on June 5 in Houston. Orlando is now just one point behind Montreal for the final playoff spot in the East.

Three moments that mattered

24' -- Larin sets MLS rookie scoring record -- Kaka played in a corner kick where Cyle Larin’s header beat Luis Robles in goal, giving Orlando City a 1-0 lead. The goal was Larin’s 12th of the season, which set the record for most goals scored by a rookie in MLS history.

46' -- Perrinelle own goal gives Orlando breathing room -- RBNY was trailing 2-1 at halftime, but an own goal from Damien Perrinelle just after the break put a damper on any attempt at a comeback. Carlos Rivas played in a low cross, which a sliding Perrinelle deflected into his own net just 37 seconds into the half.

61' -- Larin completes the hat-trick -- Larin had already added to his rookie-record total before the break, but the 20-year-old completed the hat-trick just after the hour mark. Extremely similar to his second tally, Carlos Rivas and Larin broke in on a two-on-one, with Rivas playing an early ball across to Larin, smashing it home into the roof of the net.
