MLS Snapshot: Philadelphia Union 0-1 Toronto FC

Sebastian Giovinco

Sebastian Giovinco, Toronto FC

The game in 100 words (or less): Sebastian Giovinco is probably the best player currently earning a paycheck — and extremely large one, at that — in Major League Soccer, and that’s exactly what Toronto FC signed the 28-year-old playmaker to be. On Saturday, Giovinco turned in a stunning display of goal-scoring, chance-creating and flair-oozing quality. The actual game, a 1-0 TFC victory over the Philadelphia Union, was pretty dull for the most part, but Giovinco put on a show worth the price of admission itself. In honor of The Day Giovinco Took MLS By Storm, this MLS Snapshot shall be all Giovinco, all the time.

[ RECAPS: Two MLS games on Friday night ]

Three moments that mattered of Giovinco

34' — Free kick. 35 yards. No problem. — It’s up for debate whether or not Sebastian Giovinco is the most talented player to ever come to MLS (let’s let him play half a season before we decide), but with goals like this one, he’s quickly doing well to earn his $7 million this year.

51' — Chip from 40 yards goes just high — If this chip from 40 yards out had gone in, Giovinco would have dueling golazos up for MLS Goal of the Week. Combined together, they would have totaled 100 percent of the vote.

59' — 40-yard diagonal plucked out of the air and juggled — It wasn’t the first time in the game that Giovinco flashed a ridiculous first touch, but that doesn’t make it any less beautiful.

That touch: 😍. #PHIvTOR
