Morris after USMNT win: “Scoring a goal against them is something I’ve dreamed about since I was a little kid”

Young Jordan Morris may’ve started the evening as joke fodder due simply to his age, but the Stanford sophomore did Jurgen Klinsmann a solid for granting his first senior start.

Morris netted what turned out to be the match-winning goal in the USMNT’s 2-0 win over Mexico on Wednesday at the Alamodome.

The 20-year-old Seattle native and Sounders academy product scored in his second international appearance, and was left to try and find words for the experience in a post-match interview with Julie Stewart-Binks:

“It’s hard to describe. It’s a really emotional game obviously any time we play Mexico. Scoring a goal against them is something I’ve dreamed about since I was a little kid.”

“It was an unbelievable team effort from the back line to the forwards. Everyone was working hard for 90 minutes. Our mentality is we’re going to outwork the other team. Everyone contributed and it worked out.”

Considering the poor condition of the turf, the States did well to grind out another Dos a Cero. And to have Morris -- and Gyasi Zardes... and Juan Agudelo -- perform at forward despite the absence of Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey to compliment them/take the pressure off, that’s good stuff for Klinsmann’s crew. And you didn’t think we’d take you this far without providing some of the aforementioned Morris jokes on Twitter, you don’t know us.
