Premier League Sunday preview: Can Spurs, Man City find hope versus Newcastle, West Ham?

A pair of Premier League matches are ready for your Sunday viewing pleasure, and take note that one features a different broadcast note.

Teams with Top Four ambitions are involved in both matches, while opponents have slipped back in the pack. West Ham is the only of the Sunday combatants not to have lost its last Premier League match, drawing Stoke 1-1.

The second of the two matches, Newcastle and Spurs, will be played on CNBC.

Manchester City vs. West Ham United — 8:30 a.m. ET on NBCSN and Extra Time

Well now we’ll get a taste for how deep the pride runs in Manchester City. Manuel Pellegrini’s team was beaten soundly in the Manchester Derby last week, and has lost three of four overall in falling to fourth place, just four points ahead of No. 5 Liverpool.

West Ham is in that nebulous mid-table “safe but not threatening the top” position, but could pick up its first sweep of City since 1962/63, when it won both games by 6-1 score lines.

Newcastle United vs. Tottenham Hotspur — 11 a.m. ET on CNBC and Extra Time

The Magpies have been dreadful for months, and haven’t shown too many signs of life. That could be just what Spurs need to inject some life into their Top Five charge. Tottenham fell 2-1 to Newcastle at White Hart Lane back in October, but both sides have been much different since that day. The Magpies have lost five-straight in PL play, and Spurs won 4-0 at St. James Park last year. The same line or worse isn’t out of the question as Mauricio Pochettino’s boys set their sights on a tie for fifth (for at least a week).
