Twitter reaction to Villas-Boas sacking from players and the “wrong” AVB

Twitter’s a-buzz after the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas as manager of Tottenham Hotspur. Gary Neville’s ticked off, Gary Lineker’s propping up an interim manager and Benoit Assou-Ekotto remains tickled.

All that coming up but first: a lighter note. A theater-loving Twitter user with the unfortunate handle of @AVB grew a little sick of being targeted by Spurs fans and decided to respond in her own special way.

Reminder that I am NOT the U.K. football coach, so if you send me a death threat meant for him, I’m gonna tweet you a musical theater lyric.

— Ashley Van Buren (@avb) December 15, 2013

The rest of the web wasn’t nearly as positive as her “Annie” comments, as AVB’s sacking was met with vitriol and other forms of emotion. See Benoit Assou-Ekotto:

What a good monday!Massage bike gym! And now on my way bk with this song in my car i love it hv a good monday too LOL

— Benoit Assou-Ekotto (@AssouEkotto) December 16, 2013

If there was any doubt as to what he was referring to, Assou-Ekotto posted this after Sunday’s 5-0 loss to Liverpool (He’s on loan at QPR):

What a game tonight....happy to see my man @E_Adebayor (LOL)

— Benoit Assou-Ekotto (@AssouEkotto) December 15, 2013

Spurs need to put Les Ferdinand and Tim Sherwood in charge for a while

Was told by a very good source last week that AVB actually wanted to leave Spurs himself because he was so unhappy. — DAVID JONES (@DavidJonesSky) December 16, 2013

So AVB gone now! Had to incorporate 7 new players which takes TIME/ TIME/ TIME! Rubbish! Let him finish his work!!

— Gary Neville (@GNev2) December 16, 2013

AVB has been sacked by Spurs. Would love to see Glenn Hoddle given another chance at this level. Has a brilliant football mind.

— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) December 16, 2013

I don’t imagine it will escape Villas-Boas’s notice that he leaves with highest win % (55.7) of any Tottenham manager since 1899 #THFC #AVB

Reaction from a North London rival was swift.

“@Wretch32: Wow tottenham sacked avb 🙈 #football”>>Them man don’t Play😂

— Emmanuel Frimpong (@IAMFRIMPONG26) December 16, 2013

And, of course, a thought from PST’s own Kyle Bonn:

Incredibly harsh for AVB to be sacked at Tottenham Hotspur. Never thought he fit in there, but he didn’t deserve to be sacked at all.
