Too bad we didn’t have a two-week break or something like that for Major League Soccer’s best to get all healed up and ready for a big summer run.

Wait. What’s that? Oh … we DID just have a two-week break, just the thing for Major League Soccer’s best to get all healed up and ready for a big summer run.

So, perhaps this story needs a little more fleshing out. Why is it that two Red Bulls marquee men will miss the next two MLS matches? Tis’ true: Rafa Marquez and Thierry Henry will miss the Red Bulls match Sunday in Chicago (that one is on the NBC Sports Network) and a contest three nights later in Chicago.

What does Marquez absence mean for the men of the Bull? Meh. Dax McCarty can handle the job, probably as well or better than the inconsistently interested Marquez.

Henry is a different. He gives the Red Bulls so much more offensive life, so much more diversity in the attack and such better possession in the final third. Plus, he’s got more game-breaking, goal-making ability than pretty much every frontrunner in MLS. That, of course, is why Henry remains alive and kicking in the Golden Boot chase, two behind the leaders, even though he’s played three and four fewer matches.

New York manager Hans Backe says both players should be back in about a week.
