Report: Arsenal back in for Pedro, as Barcelona star hands in transfer request

Are United about to add Pedro to their group of forwards?

Spanish international forward Pedro could be on his way out of Barcelona.

The 27-year-old attacker has spent his entire career at the Nou Camp, but is on the outside looking in this season after the arrival of Luis Suarez over the summer pushed him further down the pecking order.

According to the Daily Express in the UK, Pedro has handed in a transfer request after his playing time at Barca has dwindled considerably under new manager Luis Enrique.

In that same report Arsenal are linked with a move for the Spanish winger, who can play on either flank or through the middle. Pedro is currently valued at around $40 million but it’s thought he could be sold for considerably less than that if he pushes for a move in the January transfer window. Before the World Cup in the summer Pedro spoke about his uncertain future at Barcelona and it seems as though he fancies a change of scenery.

Arsenal have had great success with their latest purchase from Barcelona, Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez who has eight goals in his first 15 games for the Gunners. But the big question remains, does Arsenal really need another attacker?

With so many issues defensively and a fine stable of talented attackers -- Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Danny Welbeck, Sanchez, Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski and more -- does Arsene Wenger need to blow his January transfer budget on an attack-minded player?

Pedro’s productivity has remained impressive for Barca over the past season and his goals could be vital for the Gunners. The Spaniard scored 19 goals in 54 appearances last term and has 88 goals in 276 games for the Catalan club in his career. If Wenger moved on the likes of Ozil, Podolski and others in January, would Pedro be an upgrade? Right now, I’d sad yes. Arsenal need to strengthen elsewhere but if they can get a cut-price deal for Pedro, then go for it.
