Could Tottenham Hotspur’s Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor be heading to Major League Soccer?

According to the Times newspaper in the United Kingdom, Adebayor is close to arranging a move to MLS in January after falling way down the pecking order at Spurs following the ascendance of Harry Kane in recent months.

Adebayor, 30, has spent time in Africa with his family in recent weeks for what Spurs said was ‘indefinite compassionate leave’ but after returning to North London in Decemeber it seems like the former Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid forward could be heading out of White Hart Lane after failing to make an appearance since their 2-1 defeat to Stoke City on Nov. 9 where he criticized Tottenham’s fans.

It is now believed that Spurs are eager to get Adebayor off their wage bill and according to the report they have offered him around to MLS and clubs in Turkey.

In the second half of last season the gangly striker scored 14 goals in 25 appearances after Tim Sherwood made him his main striking option following Adebayor being frozen out under Andre Villas-Boas after a bust up and refusing to move to Turkish side Besiktas.

The rumor mill has Adebayor linked to Toronto FC as current Designated Player, and striker, Jermain Defoe is currently training with Spurs ahead of an expected January loan move to one of a host of Premier League teams. TFC may need a striker, so Adebayor would fit the bill. Where else could he end up? Perhaps up in Seattle, as Tottenham have close links with the Sounders following the signing of DeAndre Yedlin.

Let’s see how this one plays out, as Adebayor’s quality is undoubted but after multiple incidents over the years his temperament is questionable at best.
