The Daily Mirror’s Ed Malyon is reporting that Malky Mackay will be the new manager of Crystal Palace.

The race to replace Tony Pulis had reportedly come down to Mackay and former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood.

Pulis guided Palace to a surprise safety run last season but left the club on this season’s eve after a transfer policy dispute with the board.

Mackay is no stranger to transfer rows, having gone through a tumultuous relationship with Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan prior to being sacked last season. This adds a bit of curiosity to the hire, though perhaps there were bigger reasons for Pulis’ resignation.

Mackay’s hiring at Palace would be a reunion with sporting director Ian Moody, the latter also unceremoniously replaced in Wales.

Palace next plays West Ham United in a London derby, so it’s straight into the fire for Mackay.
