It is being widely reported that Manchester City have contested the FA charge of violent conduct handed to star striker Sergio Aguero.

By doing so the club hope to clear Aguero’s name and have him available for their huge Manchester derby against Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United next Saturday, Sept. 10 (Watch live, 7:30.m. ET on NBCSN and online via NBC Sports) at Old Trafford.

Pep Guardiola will be a happy man if this works out in his favor but these cases rarely get overturned so it’s not looking good for Aguero.

The Argentine forward was charged after an incident in the second half of Man City’s 3-1 win over West Ham United was not spotted by any of the match officials.

Aguero, 28, swung his elbow towards the face of West Ham defender Winston Reid in the 74th minute and the latter went off injured with a neck injury.

If City and Aguero would have accepted the charge of violent conduct it would’ve meant an automatic retrospective three-game ban.

However it now appears the club are going to fight their case and it will now be heard by an independent panel put together by the FA.

That hearing could be as soon as Friday as City aim to have Aguero ready to roll for one of the most eagerly-anticipated Manchester derbies in history.

If Aguero does miss this match, Guardiola may have to start Kelechi Iheanacho in his place and it would hand Mourinho and United a huge boost as the predatory Aguero has been City’s top scorer in each of their last five PL seasons.
