All summer long Manchester United were linked with German international defender Mats Hummels.
Now, according to this report, their move for the Borussia Dortmund man could be back on, as Louis van Gaal isn’t done with his drastic overhaul of the Red Devils squad. Far from it.

Hummels, 25, starred for Germany at the 2014 World Cup this summer as Die Mannschaft won the tournament. However, Dortmund have since made Hummels their captain amid interest from United and Spanish giants FC Barcelona over the summer.
With United bolstering their attacking arsenal superbly over the summer, you still get the feeling that there’s plenty of room for improvement defensively.
In either a 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 formation, Van Gaal seems to be lacking depth and quality in the center back area. Marcos Rojo will likely play there when Luke Shaw is fully fit, but his partner remains to be seen as Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans battle for the other spot. Hummels would be a significant upgrade over any of those guys, but with the rumored buyout clause not present in his contract, he could cost upwards of $40 million to get on board.
Hummels is worth it, but will United splash some cash on defenders or just save all their money to buy Cristiano Ronaldo?
The summer transfer window only just slammed shut, but managers are already locking down targets for the January window and van Gaal seems to have his sights set on Hummels.
