Reports from the UK are suggesting that Dutch center back Bruno Martins Indi could be on his way to Manchester United.

The Dutch international, 22, played for United boss Louis van Gaal at the 2014 World Cup and starred at center back in a three-man defense. Indi joined FC Porto from Feyenoord after the tournament for around $10 million, but it is thought United are desperate to bolster their defensive options and Indi could arrive, according to the Daily Express, if a $16 million bid is made for his services.

In the past he has spoken about a close connection with van Gaal, with the defender saying the following after Holland’s third-place finish at the World Cup: “Spiritually I still have contact with Van Gaal. I think about him and I think he also thinks about me.”

So, there you go... it’s happening.

Anyway, United certainly need reinforcements at the back with Marcos Rojo, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones all out injured and Chris Smalling continue to underwhelm and currently suspended after picking up a red card in the Manchester derby. Only midfielder Michael Carrick and young Northern Irish defender Paddy McNair are left as options for LVG as his defense is depleted after United’s worst start to a season since 1986 continues. Their lack of clean sheets this season has been a worry, with just two overall and one in their five PL games at Old Trafford so far as they prepare to face Crystal Palace this Saturday.

Despite claiming that United will not buy any more players in January during a recent dinner, van Gaal is apparently in for Indi’s Dutch central defensive partner Ron Vlaar too. After an outstanding World Cup at the heart of Holland’s defense, Vlaar has been hit by injuries this season and has only made six appearances for Aston Villa. Speculation around his future is rife as both Arsenal and United are heavily linked with Vlaar.

Will United go Dutch to get a defender? Indi or Vlaar, they certainly need reinforcements at the back.
