Carlo Ancelotti won his first friendly for Bayern Munich, but lost a star winger.

Arjen Robben hurt his groin in Saturday’s 4-3 win over SV Lippstadt, a match that saw USMNT attacker Julian Green score from close range.

Groin injuries aren’t a great way to start a campaign, and Robben could miss the start of the Bundesliga season.

From FCBayern.de:

FC Bayern will be without Arjen Robben for the next month and a half after the Dutch winger sustained a groin muscle injury in Saturday’s friendly away to Lippstadt. The injury to the player’s right leg was diagnosed after an examination conducted by the club’s medical unit in Munich on Sunday. Robben will be sidelined for approximately six weeks.

We’re speculating but the “six weeks” could be conservative given the player’s 32 years on God’s green earth and the mere 15 appearances he made last season.

From the Americans Abroad, standpoint Green is still listed as a first team member on the Bayern site, and this unfortunate turn for his club could be the chance he needs under a new manager.
