Stoke City 1-2 Burnley: Clarets grab back-to-back wins, move off the bottom

Stoke City lost 2-1 at home to Burnley on Saturday, as the Potters never recovered from a shocking start at the Britannia Stadium.

Danny Ings struck twice in a minute to put the Clarets 2-0 up after 13 minutes, but Jonathan Walters pulled one back for Stoke before the break.

Despite several efforts from Bojan, Charlie Adam and Peter Crouch late on, Stoke could not find an equalizer as Burnley recorded their first away win of the season and back-to-back victories.

The hosts endured a nightmare start as Ings struck twice in a minute to put the Clarets 2-0 up.

Ings’ first goal came after a scramble in the box saw him prod home in the 12th minute after an error from Asmir Begovic. 60 seconds later the England U-21 international volleyed home a second after great work from former Stoke man Michael Kightly down the left. With less than 15 minutes on the clock, Burnley were 2-0 up and in dreamland.

But that dream didn’t last for long as Walters pulled one back for the Potters are 32 minutes when he headed home Bojan’s brilliant cross. Game on. Before the break Stoke pushed for the equalizer as Victor Moses and Bojan were causing all kinds of problems for the Clarets but they still led 2-1 at the break.

In the second half Stoke continued to push for an equalizer as Bojan pulled the strings in midfield but Burnley defended resolutely. Somehow Stoke could not equalize as Peter Crouch’s effort looped past the post and Steve Sidwell arriving late, plus Charlie Adam drilled an effort wide.
