Swansea City 1-0 Watford: Massive win moves Swans clear of bottom-three

Swansea got on the board in the 27th minute thanks to Ashley Williams' perfect header and Watford was unable to put in an equalizer as the Hornets' slide continued.

With just one win in their last 11 Premier League matches, Swansea City got a massive result against Watford on Monday, downing the Hornets 1-0.

Captain Ashley Williams scored the game’s only goal as the Swans took three points with new manager Francesco Guidolin watching on from the stands. With the win, Swansea move a point above Newcastle and out of the drop zone.

The Swans got off to a bright start with both Gylfi Sigurdsson and Ki Sung-yueng involved in the attack, controlling the play and keeping much more possession than Watford.

The continued pressure paid off as Swansea found the game’s opening goal in the 27th minute. Ki’s cross into the box found captain Ashley Williams, who did well to get up over his defender and put a perfect header into the bottom corner.

After barely seeing any of the ball in the first half, Watford’s dynamic duo of Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney tried to create more offensively after the break, but Swansea stood strong and limited their chances in the attacking third.

Watford had the better of play in the final stages of the match and looked ready to find an equalizer, but were unable to get on the scoresheet. The Hornets have now lost four straight Premier League matches, falling to 12th on the table.
