Clint Dempsey’s status continues to be news in England, where the U.S. international is set to miss Round 2 of Premiership play while hoping to force Fulham into concession in the ongoing standoff. He wants the West London side to sale him, presumably to Liverpool, although Dempsey or his representation have never been that specific about the messy situation.

Glenn Moore from the The Independent, one of the better newspapers in a land where some aren’t worth dirtying your hands with, sounds sympathetic, drawing lines back to Dempsey’s days in Texas as a means to help explain his hardliner stance. But he’s clear about Dempsey’s trespass here.

Furthermore, he’d like to have a word with Professional Footballers Association, the collective bargaining arm for England’s pro soccer types. What Moore says:

Dempsey has every right to want to move, but he should honour his contract until he gets his wish. The Professional Footballers’ Association should be condemning Dempsey for refusing to play, for he is bringing into disrepute the rights they have fought for over generations. Their silence is deafening.”
