Video: Jermaine Jones scores for Schalke in UEFA Champions League
When Jermaine Jones drew a yellow card 35 minutes into Schalke’s Champions League match at Galatasaray, you could hear (or read) all the critics come out of the bushes. There’s the Jermaine Jones we know. He’s a yellow card waiting to happen and not much else.
By now we know enough about Jones to know that’s not true, but just in case there was any doubt that there is a duality to the U.S.'s midfield wrecking ball, Jones gave his critics a helping of crow during first half stoppage time in Istanbul. That’s when the Schalke player, with his team down 1-0 to a Burak Yilmaz goal, did this (courtesy of FOX Soccer):
Jones starts the movement, blazes down the right to get on the end of a Jefferson Farfan pass, one-timing an unstoppable right-footed shot into the Fernando Muslera’s net.
The goal not only pulled Schalke even but it gave the Miners a valuable road goal.
The second half has just started in Turkey, where Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder lead a new-look Gala in Champions League’s Round of 16. The score is still 1-1.
