Manchester United will be without Luke Shaw for an extended period of time after the left-back suffered a double leg fracture against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League earlier today.
Shaw was stretchered off the pitch just 15 minutes into the match after taking a hard tackle from PSV’s Hector Moreno. As Shaw cut into the box, Moreno slid in and got the ball with his front foot, though his trail leg caught Shaw, who went down in great pain.

The match was delayed nearly ten minutes as the medical staff gave oxygen to the 20-year-old while applying an air cast to his right leg. Manchester United would go on to lose 2-1.
After the match, United boss Louis van Gaal confirmed that Shaw suffered a double leg fracture that would require surgery. He has a double leg fracture. He is in the hospital and shall be transferred tomorrow with us, maybe, or perhaps a day later. He shall be operated in Manchester. It’s awful.
I’m not a doctor so I cannot say, but when you have a double fracture it is four to six months. But you can never say that in advance. He won’t play in the group stage, I don’t think. I hope he will play again this season. After struggling to maintain a spot in the starting XI last season, Shaw has been one of United’s best players in the new campaign, handling his defensive duties while never shy to join in on the attack. It’s so unfortunate for the youngster, as injuries like these usually see players miss an entire season. Not only a big blow for United, but also for England, as Shaw has been the first-choice left-back for Roy Hodgson as the Three Lions look forward to EURO 2016 in June.
