Van Gaal has interest in Ronaldo, doesn’t think Real Madrid will sell

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal admits that he has interest in former Red Devils playmaker Cristiano Ronaldo, but thinks it’s a pie in the sky situation.

Ronaldo recently admitted he has a desire to play for Manchester United again, and that admission sent gossip columns squealing with delight.

Confronted with the rumors, van Gaal responded by saying the media cooks up a lot of things... but he wouldn’t rule out making a move for the 29-year-old Portuguese star.

From the BBC:

Asked about re-signing the Portugal international forward, Van Gaal said: “It is possible.

“Players like Ronaldo give a lot of extra to a team, but I don’t think Real Madrid shall sell him.”

Asked whether he could bring Ronaldo back to United, Van Gaal said: “Yes, but it’s always a discussion in the papers, and I don’t think the media shall buy Ronaldo.”

So it’s a lot more speculation, and clearly not the last of it until at least the January transfer window. A Ronaldo/Di Maria reunion at Old Trafford would certainly have many salivating at the prospect of Manchester United returning to the Premier League’s apex.
