Louis van Gaal knows his position at the helm of Manchester United is not firm, nor in his direct control.

While he began his post-match comments by noting that his players, staff and board knows odd results happen in the Premier League, he admitted his unease at the finish.

In between, he urged the Red Devils’ to keep confidence high in the wake of unacceptable results, including two PL losses and a UEFA Champions League ouster.

From the BBC:

“We’ve lost three matches in a row so it’s not happening so much for Manchester United. We can’t accept that and that’s why I have to repeat, we have to stick together and believe in ourselves.

Van Gaal is in trouble, and he should be. A club of United’s stature can stomach a poor result in Europe from time-to-time, but not if it’s followed up by losses to recently-promoted clubs!
