Kevin de Bruyne scored his first goal for Manchester City just before the break, and the second half was almost exclusively played in West Ham’s defensive third. City pressed and pressed for an equalizer, but the Hammers’ back line stood strong and withstood an onslaught of attack from the likes of De Bruyne, Jesus Navas and Sergio Aguero.

After the match, West Ham manager Slaven Bilic said his side deserved the win, but did not deny that Manchester City was the better side throughout most of the match.

We deserved (the win) with the way we played in the first half and with the way we were fighting in the second half.

In the second half, City created and they pressed us, and they were the better team to be fair. If they had equalized it would be deserved.

City controlled more than 70-percent of the possession and outplayed West Ham in the second half, but the Hammers still managed to put in a complete team performance. Adrian was stellar in goal making eight saves on the night, and Winston Reid put in a man of the match performance commanding the defense and keeping the league’s most potent attack to just one goal.

It may be Bilic’s first season as a manager in the Premier League, but he seems to have figured things out pretty well. West Ham currently sits second on the table and boasts road wins over Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.
