Manuel Pellegrini and Jose Mourinho are not particularly fond of one another. We know that.

With Mourinho calling Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday a “fake result” his opposite number had a slightly different view as their duel on the sideline continues to rumble on.

Asked after the game about exactly how his side overpowered Chelsea in the first half when they have numerous scoring chances, Pellegrini had the following to say.

“I think we always dominate Chelsea. Not just today,” Pellegrini said. “We drew both games last season and the first year I was here we lost both games but we always dominate Chelsea. Today we didn’t give them a chance to counterattack.”

Ouch.

Pellegrini has often biten his tongue despite provocation from Mourinho in the past, but now he’s stirring the pot a little bit and giving the Chelsea manager a taste of his own medicine. With both managers signing new contracts on the eve of the new season, perhaps this rivalry is set to ignite further in the coming years as the top two from last season look highly likely to square off for the title once again this season.
