Manuel Pellegrini and Louis van Gaal have joined a number of their Premier League-managing brethren who feel the league’s demanding holiday schedule is simply too much for players, with both seeming to believe that playing two game in 48 hours played a part in their respective sides dropping points on Sunday.
Speaking in their post-game interviews, both the Manchester City and Manchester United boss, respectively, felt their side’s second-half performance lacked in terms of energy and top-level quality, which fades away with fatigue.

Pellegrini is currently facing an injury crisis as well, which has left his team without a natural striker for the last few weeks, while Van Gaal saw starting wing-back Antonio Valencia go off injured at halftime. City gave up a pair of second-half goals to go from 2-0 up, to 2-2 at the end. United dominated Tottenham in the first half before getting battered themselves and holding on for a point in the final 45.
What do you think? Is playing two games within 48 hours asking too much physically of the players? Should the game’s quality be taken into account when the league schedules are put together in the summer?
