VIDEO: Pochettino says Spurs “deserved” victory and soccer is fickle

Pochettino

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino understands that the game has its highs and lows, and being a manager means you have to deal with both of them.

Speaking after the Spurs 2-1 comeback win over 10-man Aston Villa, he was asked if the win “was a relief” to which he replied by explaining it’s not because you have to hold onto an even keel no matter what befalls your team.

Spurs scored two goals in the final six minutes to finally break down a Villa side that had lost Christian Benteke to a straight red. Pochettino said he didn’t see the action between Benteke and Ryan Mason that resulted in the Villa striker’s sending off, but that he was proud of his team’s “character” in taking control after the red.

He also wouldn’t be drawn into hailing Harry Kane after the in-form striker scored the winner, calling him an “important player” but following that up by saying “we have a lot of important players” which is essentially coach-speak for “he’s just like everyone else” in the pecking order.
