VIDEO: Rashford as surprise hero for Manchester United: “Hopefully I can just carry it on”
Marcus Rashford went from virtual unknown to Manchester household name in four days.
Articles about the 18-year-old local striker leading up to Thursday’s UEFA Europa League game were mostly titled things like, “Who is Marcus Rashford?”
Three days and four goals later -- including two against Arsenal on Sunday -- United fans are wondering whether Rashford, Jesse Lingard or Anthony Martial will captain the side in next season’s UEFA Champions League. We’re kidding, only just. Here’s the youngster’s comments, from Sky Sports:
“This is my first game in the Premier League so it has obviously been amazing, to score two it is a bonus, so hopefully I can just carry it on.
“It was a shock playing midweek and Martial was supposed to be playing. That has benefitted me. It has been good.”
United is now three points from the Top Four, though Man City has a match-in-hand. The win over the rivals is great, and there’s no guarantee that Rashford keeps his place in the 18 once everyone’s healthy.
But for today, Rashford is the name on everyone’s lips. And that must feel incredible.
