Vietnam player receives 28-game ban for horrific leg-break tackle

A player in Vietnam’s V-League has been handed a record 28-game ban after an awful lunging tackle which broke the leg of an opponent.

Vietnam international Tran Dinh Dong, who plays for Song Lam Nghe An, jumped in two footed on Nguyen Anh Hung who is expected to be out for a year with his injury.

You can watch a video of the tackle here, and despite the poor quality of the pictures you can clearly see Tran Dinh Dong jump in as the horrific challenge was met with a lengthy ban that will see him out of action until next year. On top of that, he was also fined 20m dong ($946) by the VFF (Vietnam Football Federation) and ordered to pay the medical bills of Hung Vuong An Giang’s Nguyen.

Tran’s coach Nguyen Huu Thang, had the following to say. “I will fine him if he does wrong. I think they issued the fine under pressure from public opinion, not based on reality. We will appeal because his absence would strongly affect our name and V-League results.”

In a statement regarding the ban, the VFF said: “The punishment is meant to be a warning to players throughout the nation, where violent behaviour on the field has gradually become more popular.”

Tackles like that certainly have no place in the game, watch it in the link above to make your own mind up.
