Confirmation has arrived in the past 24 hours that both Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard have both departed LA Galaxy and New York City FC respectively, and probably Major League Soccer as a whole too.

The English national team and Premier League legends had up and down careers in MLS over the past 18 months, plus plenty of injuries, as they tried a new experience Stateside.
Now 36-year-old Gerrard and 38-year-old Lampard will consider their next steps in the game as coaching roles with their former clubs, their country and maybe one last playing stint elsewhere awaits them.

When they first arrived in MLS together (of course, Lampard was delayed a little after the somewhat messy situation regarding his extended stay at NYCFC’s sister club Manchester City) I speculated which player would do better in MLS. I think I got that one right, wouldn’t you agree?
But focusing on the past 18 months, who had the bigger impact in MLS and who was the better signing for their respective clubs?
Stats wise, it would appear Lampard had the upper hand. He scored 15 goals in 30 appearances for New York City FC and had a blistering run in the 2016 season, scoring nine goals in 10 games throughout the summer months as they qualified for the playoffs in just their second season as a franchise but crashed out to Toronto FC.
Gerrard scored five goals and added 14 assists in just 34 games over his 18 month spell for LA who reached the MLS Cup playoffs in 2015 and 2016.
