Mark Geiger is no stranger to big game PK calls.

Just ask the Vancouver Whitecaps.

And this time, after pulling what many would call a soft red card on Panama in the first half, the American referee saved Mexico’s Gold Cup hopes -- at least for the time being -- with a controversial penalty kick awarded to Mexico.

The game headed to extra time knotted at 1. El Tri trailed 1-0 in the 89th minute when Torres fell on a loose ball.
