Reading are well on their way to pushing up the middle of the Championship table thanks to American midfielder Danny Williams.

The 26-year-old latched onto a ball along the right wing and lashed it to the far post with enough curl to beat Blackburn goalkeeper Jason Steele. The 11th minute goal put Reading 1-0 up on Blackburn, a lead that would hold up to the final whistle.

Williams was with the USMNT for their friendly against Costa Rica on October 14, but was not selected for the November World Cup qualifiers. He’s made a solid case for a spot in the squad this season with three goals and a solidified spot in Reading’s starting lineup, but the club has slipped recently with four straight losses.

A thumbs up to Williams for this strike, which will maybe catch the eye of Jurgen Klinsmann who is in need of creativity.
