  • Watford remains in 12th

Riyad Mahrez’s second-half goal was enough to increase Leicester City’s first place cushion to five points as the Foxes beat Watford 1-0 at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

Next up for Leicester: Back to the King Power to host Newcastle before a trip to Selhurst Park and Crystal Palace.

The loss keeps Watford in 12th place.

Chances came early, as both Etienne Capoue and Jamie Vardy pushed dangerous chances to no success. And Vardy couldn’t turn an in-tight, square pass from Riyad Mahrez inside the post soon after.

Another good look fell for Troy Deeney in the 27th minute, but he hit his shot right at Kasper Schmeichel.

N’Golo Kante’s return from injury was noticeable, as the Foxes got back into the win column.

Mahrez kept up his Player of the Season campaign with a high and classy finish from outside the 18 that made it 1-0 in the 57th minute.

Watford worked the ball into good positions on several occasions, but Schmeichel almost always seemed well-positioned to make the stop. His late catch of an Odion Ighalo header was no exception.
