Wednesday’s transfer rumor roundup: Rhodes to West Ham, RVP to Chelsea
Some rumored, some true, some just reports for now, but what a time to be alive!
Before we get started with other news, let’s stick with relatively nuts gossip regarding the Blues. The Express thinks Robin van Persie could head to Stamford Bridge after just a half season at Fenerbahce, where he’s scored 11 times in 26 matches.
Two names who’ve lived in the Premier League rumor mill for ages are Loic Remy and Saido Berahino, and it looks like both their fates will go down to the wire. Come Feb. 1, Remy could still be at Stamford Bridge despite the loan move for Pato. The London Evening Standard says Leicester has had a bid turned down by Chelsea, while Newcastle’s preference of a loan doesn’t completely fit Mike Ashley’s policies at St. James Park.
As for Baggies’ forward Berahino, Newcastle had been greenlit to break their transfer record to bring him to town, but Spurs still want him and have bid more than the Magpies’ rumored $27 million bid.
Florian Thauvin could be leaving Newcastle for Marseille after just six months. Sky Sports says the $18 million purchase could leave as soon as the Andros Townsend move is formalized by the Magpies.
Often spoken of in the same breath as Charlie Austin and Jamie Vardy, Blackburn striker Jordan Rhodes remains in-demand, but the Rovers claim they haven’t received any bids for the 25-year-old Scot. He’s scored 20-plus goals in his last three Championship campaigns, and eight goals in 12 matches this season. Middlesbrough is said to want Rhodes, and West Ham also could make a move.
Alfred Finnbogason of Iceland will be leaving Olympiakos, but it won’t be for Montreal. The striker reportedly refused a move to Canada, and is instead looking at the Bundesliga.
