Norwich City beat West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at the Hawthorns to boost their hopes of staying in the Premier League and ending a 10-game run without a victory.

Alex Neil’s side won courtesy of Robbie Brady’s strike and managed to keep a clean sheet for the second-straight game after going eight games without keeping one.

The Canaries now have 28 points and sit fourth from bottom, three points ahead of Sunderland and four points ahead of Newcastle. West Brom remain on 39 points after losing for the first time in five games.

Norwich had plenty of the ball early on but failed to create any clear cut chances.

West Brom grew into the game and after a corner was half cleared Claudio Yacob sent an effort just wide of the post as the Baggies gathered a head of steam.

Norwich’s Gary O’Neill then gave the ball away in front of the back four and Stephane Sessegnon surged forward but drove his effort wide of the near post when he should have hit the target.

Five minutes into the second half Norwich went 1-0 up as Matt Jarvis was found in the box by Dieumerci Mbokani and although the ball got stuck under his feet, Brady was on hand to finish. 1-0 to the visitors as their survival hopes received a huge shot in the arm.

Craig Gardner whipped in a free kick which somehow evaded everyone but despite pinning Norwich back the home side were failing to create any clear chances.

In the end Norwich held on for the victory rather easily and piled pressure on relegation rivals Newcastle United and Sunderland ahead of their Tyne-Wear derby later in Week 31.
