Tim Melville has signed with the Uni-Lions of Taiwan’s Chinese Professional Baseball League.
Melville was in spring training with the Rockies but was released back in May. The 30-year-old right-hander will go through a 14-day quarantine before being allowed to join his team.

  • INT Starting Pitcher #46
    Rockies released RHP Tim Melville.
Melville cracked a rib back in early February and was unable to make an appearance in the Cactus League this spring. The 30-year-old former fourth-round pick of the Royals holds a career 6.75 ERA in 48 total innings (10 starts, three relief appearances) at the major league level.

  • INT Starting Pitcher #46
Tim Melville will be out 6-8 weeks due to a cracked rib.
It’s unclear when or how the injury took place. Either way, he’ll likely get a late start on his 2020 campaign. Melville was outrighted off the 40-man roster back in October after posting a 4.86 ERA and 24/14 K/BB ratio over 33 1/3 innings with the big club last year.
  • INT Starting Pitcher #46
Rockies sent RHP Tim Melville outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Melville posted an underwhelming 4.86 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 24/14 K/BB ratio over 33 1/3 innings (seven starts) in 2019. The 30-year-old right-hander is officially off the Rockies’ 40-man roster.
  • INT Starting Pitcher #46
Tim Melville gave up one run over five innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Wednesday.
Melville surrendered four hits, recorded two strikeouts and also issued a pair of walks. An RBI single by Kevin Pillar in the third inning accounted for all of the damage against him in this one. The 29-year-old journeyman right-hander closes out the 2019 campaign with a respectable 4.86 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 24/14 K/BB ratio across 33 1/3 innings (seven starts) at the major-league level.
  • INT Starting Pitcher #46
Tim Melville coughed up four runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Mets on Tuesday.
Melville retired 12 of the first 15 batters he faced and carried a two-hit shutout into the sixth inning before giving up a leadoff single to Todd Frazier and a two-run homer to ensuing batter Amed Rosario. He also served up solo shots to Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso later in the frame. He finished with two strikeouts and only walked one batter. The 29-year-old right-handed journeyman has compiled an underwhelming 5.40 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 22/12 K/BB ratio across 28 1/3 innings (six starts) at the major-league level this season. He’s an intriguing streaming candidate in deeper mixed leagues when he faces the Giants in San Francisco on Tuesday.
  • INT Starting Pitcher #46
Tim Melville was pounded for four homers and five runs in three innings by the Cardinals on Thursday.
Melville had given up just two homers through four starts, which was a big key to his 3.66 ERA. He’s still pitched well in three out of five outings, so he’ll certainly finish the year in the Rockies rotation.
  • INT Starting Pitcher #46
Tim Melville struck out a season-high eight batters over 5 2/3 innings in a win over the Padres on Friday.
Melville gave up two runs on five hits. A two-run single by Eric Hosmer in the third inning accounted for all of the damage against him in this one. The 29-year-old righty has put together a phenomenal four-start stretch in his return to the big leagues after a nearly two-year hiatus. He’ll carry a 3.66 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 19/9 K/BB ratio into his next start against the Cardinals at home on Thursday. He can be safely avoided in standard mixed leagues, but offers some appeal as a streaming option in deeper formats moving forward.
  • INT Starting Pitcher #46
Tim Melville was tagged for five runs -- four earned -- over two innings in a loss to the Pirates on Saturday.
Melville gave up six hits, including a leadoff homer to Kevin Newman. He surrendered two runs in the opening frame and three additional runs in the second inning. He finished with one strikeout and also walked a pair of batters. The 29-year-old journeyman right-hander was phenomenal, allowing only one run over 12 innings, in his first two starts at the major-league level in nearly two years prior to this ugly outing. He’ll attempt to bounce-back against the Padres in San Diego on Friday. However, there simply isn’t enough strikeout potential to justify rostering him outside of NL-Only formats.
  • INT Starting Pitcher #46
Tim Melville managed to hold the Braves off the scoreboard for five frames Monday, taking a no-decision in the Rockies’ 3-1 win.
Melville needed 100 pitches to get through his five innings and went through a particularly laborious fifth, getting Freddie Freeman to ground out with the bases loaded to end the threat. He walked three but fanned six batters. Melville has defied the odds in two starts with the Rockies, allowing just one run over 12 innings of work. It’s a cool story for the 29-year-old, but his luck will run out soon, and probably this weekend at Coors versus the Pirates.
