Hammel comes to Baltimore for next rehab step

Jason Hammel is scheduled to rejoin the Orioles on Saturday for the next step of his rehab. Hammel had right knee surgery on July 16, and hes been working out at his Rhode Island home. Hes to throw off the front slope of the mound on Saturday, and if that goes well, Hammel is to throw from the mound on Monday and Thursday.Hes had a ball in his hand for a while, manager Buck Showalter said. Because his injury wasnt to his arm, elbow or shoulder, it shouldnt take long to build Hammel back to full strength. Its not like hes going to go out and throw one or two innings the first time out and two or three the next time out, Once he gets healthy, he can move pretty quickly, Showalter said. The Orioles are hoping that hell return in early September. The minor league affiliates regular seasons end in the first week of September, and if some of them make the playoffs, its possible Hammel may make a rehab start then.
