J.J. Hardy may return to the Orioles by next weekend. Hardy, who has yet to play this season due to a left shoulder injury will begin a rehab assignment at Bowie on Monday night.
Hardy will be joined by Ryan Flaherty, who’s been on the disabled list with a groin injury.
The pair are expected to play at least three games with the Baysox and could play a fourth on Thursday morning.
Hardy and Flaherty could join the Orioles in New York. The Orioles play two games against the Mets and four against the Yankees. Flaherty isn’t eligible to return from the DL until Friday.
Matt Wieters spoke with reporters in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Sunday morning, and said that he doesn’t have a timetable for his return. He’s been watching the Orioles series with Tampa Bay.
Wieters caught five innings in an extended spring game in Sarasota on Saturday and has refused to guess on an eventual return from Tommy John surgery. For now, he’s playing every other day.
He played in one Grapefruit League game on March 17, but his surgically repaired elbow hurt the next day, and the team shut him down.
Wesley Wright, who’s also on the disabled list is scheduled to pitch in an extended spring game on May 19.
